Grantmaking
The Arkay Foundation does not accept unsolicited applications or proposals. All grants are initiated by the Foundation’s directors who actively seek out the best organizations and
programs working in the Foundation’s program focus areas. The Board identifies potential grantees through participation in grantmakers networks, creating dialogue with experts on issues of interest and
the research, experience and knowledge of individual Board members.
The Foundation considers grant proposals in each of its program focus areas at least once a year. Organizations recommended by Board members are invited to submit a letter of inquiry that briefly
describes their goals and activities. The Board then selects organizations that will be asked to submit a full proposal for general support or project funding. Invited organizations receive a package
containing the Foundation’s Grant Guidelines, application procedure, calendar and reporting requirements. The Foundation does not make multi-year grant commitments, but selected grantees may be invited
to apply for renewed funding.
The Foundation gives priority to programs that have the potential for leveraging change and having systemic impact in its current program focus areas:
» Enhancing the Democratic Process
» Reducing Human Impact on the Environment
